We got to sleep in quite a bit this morning before heading to The Field Museum. We woke up around 9:10  and started to get ready. Breakfast at the hotel ends at 9:30 so I went downstairs and got a tray of food for everyone. They had scrambled eggs, potatoes, bacon, cereal, bagels and yogurt. There is only one chair in our room so the boys sat together while they ate.

We headed for the Field Museum about 10:30 by Uber. The traffic really wasn’t bad at all! We purchased the City Pass so we got discounted prices into the museums. At The Field Museum we got access to all the “pay to see” exhibits as well as one movie. We chose “Waking the TRex” as our movie.

We started downstairs at the Underground Adventure which “shrinks” you down 100x And you go through the tunnels of the soil and learn about different critters and what is happening under our feet. The boys liked the bugs and Rocky asked to go back to see more.

After we went to the Kids Science Lab. It was meant for kids up to the age of 6. The boys participated in a sound center and played different drums, picked corn and made corn meal in a Pueblo and dug for dinosaurs.

Next we went though the Ancient Egypt exhibit. The students were very interested in the mummies. We even saw a mummified body without the dressing. They were very interested in the process and looking at all the different artifacts.

We went upstairs for the mammals of Asia exhibit before watching the 3D movie “Waking the TRex” about the excavation of Sue. Teddy wanted to see the real Sue after the movie so we went to the top floor and saw Sue.

A late lunch at the cafe of a foot long hot dog, pepperoni pizza, fries and a Pseudo Sue was enjoyed before exploring more exhibits of animals, meteorites, the Pacific and death.

Thom and the boys were excited that the Field Museum was right across from Soldier Field. We stopped for a quick picture and then decided to head to dinner at Lou Malnati’s.  We got a a sampler appetizer with fried zucchini, fried mushrooms, cheese curds and mozzarella sticks. For dinner we had deep dish “Chicago classic” pizza and Rocky got a cheeseburger. Supposedly they have the best deep dish pizza in Chicago; it was good but we all agreed Giordano's is better.

While at dinner we all discussed what our favorite parts of the museum were. I enjoyed the movie and seeing Sue. Rocky enjoyed the bugs and the dinosaurs. Teddy’s favorite was Sue and the kids science area. Thom’s favorite was seeing all the animals from around the world. We had a lot of conversations about the different extinct animals that we saw in the museum that were alive during our lifetime but are no longer alive.

After dinner we took an Uber to Jewel Osco, a couple blocks from the hotel and got a few snacks for the hotel. We watched the end of Flora and Ulysses and Shrek 3 before calling it a night.

I didn’t know what to expect going into the Field Museum and figured we would stay for a couple hours but we really tried to go through every exhibit and soak it all in. We spent over 5 hours there and we definitely could have been more thorough.

Tomorrow we head to the Shedd Aquarium!
